Strata Products Australia partnered with TW Woods to design and manufacture a 50-tonne horizontal silo built to meet industry standards. The project required technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to evolving requirements all strengths of TW Woods.
Client Requirements & Scope of Work
Strata Products required an AS1210-compliant pressure vessel capable of withstanding 2.2 Bar hydrostatic testing. TW Woods managed the project from start to finish, ensuring precision and reliability:
– Supplied materials to specification, including 6mm shell plates and 12mm grade BP heads.
– Performed rolling, fabrication, and third-party inspections as per design requirements.
– Conducted hydrostatic and pneumatic testing to confirm structural integrity.
– Applied protective coatings, including abrasive blasting, zinc priming, and a high-gloss white finish.
– Delivered a complete Manufacturing Data Report (MDR) for traceability and compliance.
– Integrated additional requirements, such as 100% Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) on welded seams and precise framework adjustments, into the workflow.
Challenges & Solutions
The project scope evolved during manufacturing, requiring flexibility and technical expertise.
– Quality Assurance – Every weld underwent testing, including MPI and soapy fluid leak tests, to ensure safety and compliance.
– Attention to Detail – Modifications, such as marking vent ends and painting lugs for easy identification, were implemented as needed.
